What is a UFO?

An unidentified flying object, or UFO, is anything in the sky that cannot be explained by the person who sees it. Some people think that UFOs are alien spaceships. But most scientists say that UFOs can be explained in much more ordinary ways.

World UFO Day

World UFO Day is an awareness day for people to gather together and watch the skies for unidentified flying objects (UFO). The day is celebrated by some on June 24, and others on July 2. June 24 is the date that reporter Kenneth Arnold wrote about what is generally considered to be the first widely reported UFO in the United States, while July 2 is the date of the supposed UFO crash in the 1947 Roswell incident.

Kenneth Arnold reported to having seen nine unusual objects flying in tandem near Mount Rainier, Washington on June 24, 1947. This was the first post-World War II sighting in the United States that garnered nationwide news coverage and is credited with being the first of the modern era of UFO sightings.

Roswell incident

The events surrounding the crash and recovery of a U.S. Army Air Forces high-altitude balloon in 1947 near Roswell, New Mexico, which became the centre of a conspiracy theory involving UFOs and extraterrestrials is known as Roswell Incident.
